Hiss Spun is turning out to be an interesting album for Chelsea Wolfe. Building off of the dark nature of her previous release, Abyss, the album goes from there yet builds an identity of its own, with an undeniably metal aesthetic draped over it. To up the ante, Chelsea Wolfe has released the next single, “Vex,” from the forthcoming album, and it’s a weird one.

While not the weirdest thing we’ve written about, but “Vex” is quick and to the point, closing out at just about three minutes. Better yet, Aaron Turner for Sumac, Isis, and Old Man Gloom fame makes an appearance towards the end, giving the track an extra little kick to make it stick. Between “Vex” and the previously released “16 Psyche,” this seems like it’s going to be a very dissonant and heavy album, but one that’ll have it’s rewards in a full listen.
