Vattnet dark blackWe reported a short time ago that New Hampshire’s former Vattnet Viskar was undergoing some major shifts behind the scenes. Abandoning the “Viskar” and shifting gears to just simply “Vattnet,” the band have finally lifted the curtain on what new direction in which the band is taking.

The previous release, Settler, garnered much attention in the post-black metal scene, ultimately being one of the best reviewed albums of the year in 2015. That, however, is gone, and Vattnet have now dropped the growls and blast beats entirely, as previously reported. The new song, “Dark Black,” sees bassist Casey Aylwald taking on lead vocal duties, and shares the atmosphere and production similarities to their previous works, however is more melodic and less dissonant. That being said, “Dark Black” takes cues from Deftones and even has hints of Cult of Luna in there, no doubt, and melds styles into something unique.

There’s no word on when the self-titled album will drop, but you can stream “Dark Black” below and purchase it on the band’s Bandcamp. It is also worth mentioning that their Bandcamp now they label themselves as a progressive metal act, likening themselves to Rosetta, Intronaut, and The Ocean.
