Sounding like a more traditional death metal band with a Cradle of Filth twist, Tales of the Tomb hail from the freezing north (Edmonton, more specifically) and bring us a choice cut of their sickest tunes! 3 songs long, Volume 1 runs about 11 minutes, so it's a short run through the killing fields here. They play fast, nasty, with lots of heavy overdrive and gan to shred your ears into bloody pieces. Tales of the Tomb are nasty, restorting to a fast and very gritty sounding death metal style with blasting beats and bare knuckle shredding. It's a bit like Nekrogoblikon and Cradle of Filth slammed together, and then made to snort caffeine. Or Ghoul on a slow Tuesday.

The album runs like it's being chased, slamming through it's gears to ludicrous speed from the moment you hit play. Interspersed with some news or movie soundbites, their gore-filled lyrics fit right in with normal DM offerings, and their performance fits the mold as well. However, instead of sounding overly produced, they give us that garage-esque aesthetic, with medium to low production. It doesn't harm their sound either, with bangers like The Pig Farmer just revving up like a pissed off chainsaw right behind you. They don't fuck around, and they waste nobody's time getting to the good stuff. There's not much lead time, nor shreddery, but they do manage to give us some moments of good playing, as found on Dr Death at about the 2:20 mark.

THis album is not for people who prefer the higher class, Cannibal Corpse style or better production values, bu tif you love the gritty, gory, lo fi goodness of backroom death metal, Volume 1: Morpras by Tales of the Tomb will fill your dripping black heart with more than a good time! Look out for this shambling record around November 27, 2015! And beware it's teeth!
