On War Torn, Grim Vision brings a back alley fight to your sound system. Between rapid, thrumming riffs and simple hardcore/punk beats 11 minutes of beatdown metal just flies by. it’s self-described as Black Hardcore, and its crusty like a meth drinker’s sink. Grim Vision has turned up the bass, and it throbs through the album like a tendon from a giants body, like disturbed bridge cabling (Fallen Soldier). It’s not the fastest thing, like grind or thrash, but it isn’t doomy either. Sitting in the mid-tempos, and sometimes slow jam style, War Torn is a perfect album for inciting a riot, even if it’s just you.
The tones are absolutely nasty, with the aforementioned bass, laying its dirty strums over a guitar full of feedback and dirty, broken glass riffs that just scrap at you. It’s very close to assault, and it’s extremely addictive. Rounding them out, the drums are garage band big, with toms a plenty, and the skin work is fast and fun. Throw all this in a blender, and top off with acid and whiskey soaked vocals shredding your ears apart, anf you have one of the nastiest bands out right now. Of particular highlight for their sound, is the song Ten Minutes. The song is extremely fast, and carries all the aggression of the hardcore roots, simply pushing their sound down your throat, and in the last 2 minutes, creating this badass sound from guitar or bass, I can’t really tell, similar to a helicopter descending on an unruly crowd. It heady stuff!
So if you want a new anthem for the unhappy, pick up War Torn by Grim Vision on August 21st, 2015, from their bandcamp page!. And bring padding, that pit is going to hurt!
