» Blog Archive Album Review: The Meatening by Fossils -
Hunter Young Hard Music, News, Reviews

PrintNoise/Post Rock is by far a terrible genre, I don’t care if its your favorite, Jerry. It sucks, and you suck by association! However, a new batch of these records have been poppign up that are actual good! One such example is the new Fossils album, The Meatening. And yes, there is a bacon track. Its an album of prime cuts and tasty gristle!

Noise rock as a whole is terrible, and my feelings are clear: you aren’t clever for making noise, anymore than I would be for hitting the keyboard with my face. You’re just taking something cool and unmaking it the hard way, you ponces. Now, not all are bad, as the new Fashion Week album is stellar, and Fossils has brought us a Smorgasbord of choice songs on their new sonic platter, The Meatening (out now on Indisciplinarian Records), showing us noise can always be pleasant to!

Starting with the first track, Deadringer, which is also my favorite track, it’s almost anthemic with how th egroove goes. The vocals are raw, and basically shouting from the back of the room, but the song is just awesome, I want to learn all sub-2 minutes of it! I want a longer cut! more to come on that. Each song is its own thing, with the only theme being meat in the title or content, which makes me curious as to what Speedbacon actually is, and is it legal? THe songs are fast, and very different, depending on who was in on the process, but they all have a pulse elevating energy about them, and a rhythm that sticks between the ears like its fresh chewing gum. THe drums and bass are forefront, as the base band is just the drummer and bassist, who also usually only do instrumentals only. THis album is the fist time they have brought in vocals, and went with 7 friends at that! Vocalists on The Meatening include individuals/bands like: Jacob Bredahl – The Kandidate, ex-HateSphere, Ultimate Combat Noise, Mads Stobberup – Cola Freaks, Marie Højlund – Marybell Katastrophy, Seb Doubinsky, Mikko Mansikkala Jensen, and Kim Kix – Powersolo. Its a varied mix, and every vocal piece of the song was left up to the vocalist for that particular track, so it might be pick and choose for some of you… like a Buffet!

And to be fair to the band and genre, I may have just found all th eterrible ones first. Fossils makes a distinction of themselves by bringing in outside talent, and allowing the OT to basically smash two or more styles together, with a solid band backing them up, an dcreating something wholly monstrous and magnificent. Another great selection, jus because of the weirdness of the singer and the punk/rockabilly way of the song, is the closer Ködhabit (feat. Kim Kix – Powersolo). Its all over the place, ith two distinct parts to the song, and is a howling good time by the end. Reminds me of surf punk and horrorbilly, just all energy and very odd ideas put together.

The album as a whole is solid, with no song being bad, just maybe not the listener’s cup of drippings. CHeck the whole album out, first to last, and pick out the choice sweetmeats here! Its all different, and all differently tasty! FOr more information, ordering info, and just silliness with meat, point your clicker to the links below!
