4B Wild WestThis past weekend, the 4B Wild West Biker Rally to Fuck Cancer 2014 happened! Along with several sketchy vendors, bike shops, sketchier attendees, and several more sex toys than one would think out in the open, Metal Machine was pleased to witness the stage stylings of Warrant (fronted by Robert Mason), LA Guns, Drowning Pool, and some band with the Redneck Nation in the title. It was Texas Country, so no loss. On to the review!!!!!

It was a hot and muggy Friday evening, with some bad ass bikes rolling through, some beautiful babes dressed in their finest trailer park 80s, and bikers. Because Bike Rally. The opening band, Geneva, butchered some classics, like Slow Ride, Shot in the Dark, and many classic rock treasures, with their singer barely contained in her Affliction style shirt. They were perfect to make you think the following band sounds awesome! Sadly, Warrant was less than stellar.

Warrant came on stage bright as a flare, and the hopes were high! And then they were dashed, hard, to the ground, as they had a terrible sound, muddy guitars were drowned out with a lackluster bass backing them, and the drums were drowning all of that out. The singer did himself no favors, he wasn’t putting that 80s spirit into anything, and no one else in the band seemed to really care either. They did have an excuse ready: rented equipment. Original, believable, still an excuse. More on the argument against that in a bit. The only one who seemed to care about putting on a show was the lead guitarist, a fat Joe Satriani looking guy. They disinterested enough that it isn’t important. He has a flamed guitar. Couldn’t hear him, even though his shred was strong, either way. Hopefully their other shows are MUCH better. Even if they lip sync, I hope it’s better. Thankfully, the show was rained out and the tarp-like covering that covered the stage dumped a few gallons on them, as if God or whoever cared to listen was telling them they suck with a metaphorical beer thrown at them. Moving on!

Saturday night was a new day, no rain scheduled, equipment dried out, and a whole new crowd formula! Slated for that night was LA Guns (supposed to play Friday night, but see rain above), Drowning Pool, and that last band. LA Guns sets up, has their sound guy check everything, digitally which was pretty cool to watch, and then DESTROYED. They put several newer, younger bands to shame, and made Warrant look stupid. LAG played hard, fast, dirty, and oh so crunchy! The quality of the show was amazing, comparable to the studio recorded albums, and they performed for close to on and a half hours. They were well worth the $5 parking charge! They played a mix of old and new, covered Faeries Wear Boots by Black Sabbath, and showed that if you care, the same equipment that Warrant was lackluster with wasn’t to blame. They did have a snafu, the bass refused to work consistently with the rented amp, but that was fixed with a quick trade out. LA Guns is worth the cover charge, go see ASAP!

The show rolled on to Drowning pool at around 11, so everyone was a bit rowdy at this point, and Drowning Pool put on a decent show after the destruction that was LAG. The sound wasn’t the best for them, and they always have more attitude in an enclosed setting, not the giant field that we were in, but nevertheless, a great one to watch. I will never really call DP awesome, however, since Dave “Stage” Williams passed on, but they do their best. They played all the classics, including Sinner and Bodies, so not a loss in the books.

Didn’t watch the last band, i have too much respect for myself, and the slag chicks were the only ones really left. No thank you!

Great time, wild sights, and good music, for a great cause; will attend next year and see what hijinks I can actually tell you about!
