It has indeed been announced. The hipster, fez-bearing doctor has left the building, and by building I mean the show. Matt Smith who has portrayed the doctor on the show since 2010 followed David Tennant, who in my opinion was much better. Opinions aside, the fan base is very sad to see him go and in utter curiosity about his departure.According to our sources, the BBC are tonight going to announce that Matt Smith is leaving the show and that we’ll get a new Doctor as of August next year. They’ll also be announcing how many new episodes we’ll get, and it won’t be one of those cut-in-two seasons like we’ve just been through. In fact, we’ve heard talk that it’s going to run right up to a finale that is also the Christmas special. In accordance with the story line of the show, Smith is the 11th incarnation of the time lord known only as The Doctor. Smith is the 3rd actor to portray this character since the shows revival in 2005. Smith and Tennant will be doing a 50th anniversary team up episode in November prior to his leaving of the show in December. Mr. Smith said in a statement that “Doctor Who” has been “the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke, and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans of the show.” He added: “The fans of ‘Doctor Who’ around the world are unlike any other; they dress up, shout louder, know more about the history of the show (and speculate more about the future of the show) in a way that I’ve never seen before, your dedication is truly remarkable.” However, there is still no ultimate reason as to why his departure is happening, or who will replace him. The BBC has made statements here and there, yet nothing is seeming to add up. The lead writer of the show Steven Moffat has gone on record praising the work of Smith. ”Every day, on every episode, in every set of rushes, Matt Smith surprised me: the way he’d turn a line, or spin on his heels, or make something funny, or out of nowhere make me cry, I just never knew what was coming next. The Doctor can be clown and hero, often at the same time, and Matt rose to both challenges magnificently.” This is all very touching but, we want to know what’s going on behind the scenes. Smith’s contract was not outrun, to our knowledge he hand’t made a brash hoopla that caused him to be sent away. What’s the deal? Even though I am personally not a fan of his Doctor he is well loved amongst the community, especially in the younger crowds considering he is their first Doctor. Somewhere out there a Dalek is adding Smiths name to the end of his extermination list though and about to engage a new one. This pegs the further question, who will it be?
