Amanda Harvey Comic Book News, Gaming, News, Reviews

I’m starting to realize more and more that Dark Horse has their hands on, around, and in everything that I love. They’ve merged with some of the biggest names in comics, television, movies, and gaming to produce some fantastic sub story lines comics. Joss Whedon is doing Angel & Faith, a Buffy/ Angel reboot through Dark Horse. There’s a bunch of Star Wars excitement going around. They even have a Dragon Age comic, even though it’s not choose your own fate. The newest arrival that made my inner nerd girl scream is a prequel to the highly anticipated Last of Us game from Naughty Dog.
If you know anything about this game, which you probably don’t because of marketing genius plots to keep it’s premise next to a complete secret, you know that there is a young girl involved. The entire story arch of the comics follows the life of this young orphaned girl, Ellie, prior to meeting the games protagonist , Joel. In the first trade we discover that Ellie is orphaned in the infection outbreak and that she is sent to a military boarding school, as all orphans must do and this post apocalyptic world. We then discover that she has a history of being a trouble maker. Thievery, misconduct, fighting and a sassy attitude that doesn’t trust anyone to boot. Within second of departing the bus she gets into a fight. She’s saved by a fellow orphan Riley who then proceeds to befriend her in fallacy and steals her walkman. I see a lot of drama on the horizon. The story line and artwork is done by a compilation of Neil Druckmann, Rachelle Rosenburg, and Faith Erin Hicks. Check it out.
