The Big Kahuna Hard Music, News

Ukrainian doom/death act APOSTATE is pleased to announce the addition of two new members to its ranks. Promising young guitarist Andrij Hudyma and second vocalist Vadym Ozhygin (also of Ukrainian thrashers DISARM) give the band a new level of energy and will contribute to a denser, richer sound both live and in the studio.

APOSTATE released Trapped in a Sleep late last year on Black Art Records and listeners lucky enough to have experienced it are still thawing out and paying contractors for the repairs to their damaged souls. A collection of dynamically composed songs that combine doom’s crushing despair with death’s frightening aggression in a way that continually captivates,

Trapped in a Sleep is a work that is strangely beautiful, darkly majestic, and impossibly heavy.  Digital promos are still available so get in touch!

Praise for Trapped in a Sleep

“Ukrainian Doom Metal all-stars. This line-up has created an absolute work of art in Trapped in a Sleep.”  – WeLoveMetal.com

“Fans of classic doom metal collectives such as Candlemass and My Dying Bride are sure to be inspired by the somber reveries of the mighty Apostate.  Based out of the Ukraine, Apostate recently unleashed a magnificent collection of tunes entitled Trapped In A Sleep (Black Art Records) – epic in scope filled with a sonic atmospheres of devastation and despair.”

-HighWire Daze

“In long-running Ukrainian quartet Apostate we have mid-tempo, melodic doomdeath somewhere between rowdier Katatonia and less-swaggering Sentenced with occasional swathes of plausibly melodramatic synth. Well-played, well-recorded, and otherwise well-structured”

– Zero Tolerance

“A version of deathdoom very focused on the traditional UK doom of early 90s, yet mostly stripped of the gothic influences which slowly crept into Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride

in their latter years. I am…privileged to write reviews about the bands from Ukraine, if their work is quality, and it is clearly the case with Apostate.” – MetalReviews.com

“With tracks of this length many bands would be digging themselves in a hole, but Apostate handles the responsibility of keeping the listener’s attention and most of the feelings they want to come across the listener flourish.Could also be an excellent gateway album for individuals looking to get into the death/doom genre.” – Foul Feast of the Flesh

“It’s not just a retro trip and they incorporate melancholic choral melodies, doom death and gothic keyboards to give themselves a wider appeal. Apostate are ready once again to take on the world” – Battle Helm

“Apostate has always been one of the best representatives of Ukrainian doom metal music. The album is a must-have.” – Dmitriy “Tiamat” (Ukrainian gothic/doom band IDOL)

“We’ve got something really new for Ukraine within doom/death, which sounds modern but at the same time like the older European doom metal of the nineties.” – JustDoom Zine

“It’s like something new that you can listen together with the records of the nineties and you won’t even notice the difference. Stylish and powerful record with high-quality sound that may stay in record libraries for a long time.” – Rock Lviv Zine (8/10)

“The sound on Trapped in a Sleep is certainly comparable to the British sound, although less strong gothic influences like My Dying Bride. For fans of old Anathema and Paradise Lost. The music sounds wonderful…deserves to be heard.”  – Zware Metalen (88/100)
