Stan (The Man) Lee is at it again. Mr. Lee’s SLG Entertainment and The NHL have teamed up to create 30 superhero characters based on the NHL’s 30 teams. Joining Stan Lee in the endevour are veteran comic book creators Chuck Dixon and Mark McKenna. Full comic book histories and profiles have been created for each character.
The Guardian Project is the latest superhero franchise from Stan Lee, the creative mind behind Spider-Man®, The Incredible Hulk®, X-Men®, The Fantastic Four® and Iron Man® among many others. Created and developed by Lee and Tony Chargin, Executive Vice President of Creative Affairs for Guardian Media Entertainment (GME), and Jake Shapiro, each Guardian superhero character was created from its corresponding NHL team, complete with special powers representative of each team and city.
All 30 superhero characters are being introduced individually in 2-D animation throughout January as part of the Guardian 30 Match-Up – a Facebook application that enables fans to determine the order in which each team’s Guardian is unveiled. The campaign, which began December 20, provides a daily spotlight on a different team’s Guardian and layed the groundwork for the storyline to be introduced during the NHL All-Star Weekend.
The Villian – Devan Dark
Swathed in the comfort of total darkness, Deven admired the dark silhouette of the building…his building. Dark Laboratories. His
mouth literally began to water as he studied the contours of the glass and metal and stone. He wanted somehow to devour the entire
structure, and standing here looking at it, he felt as if he actually could. Suddenly, he simply could not control himself any longer.
Like a cat, he sprang forward, sprinting a few steps and then, with one powerful thrust of his legs, catapulting himself into the air.
He landed noiselessly on the flat, sheer, slippery surface of the glass façade, directly over the lobby doors, fifteen feet from the ground.
Exhilarated beyond his wildest fantasies, Dark not only had complete control over every muscle in his body from his toes to his
eyelids, he felt as if there was no limit to the strength in each one. Here he was, stuck like a tree frog to the sheer face of a glass office
tower, and he might as well have been lolling on a hammock for all the actual effort he was exerting. I am a superman. He looked skyward
toward the turret. In a flash, like some sort of abominable insect, he scurried up the side of the building and sprang over the lip of the
turret. Dark landed on two feet atop his building then, scarcely comprehending what he had just done, his mind racing at the possibilities
of what else he might do. My god. This is what it will be like. This is how every one of my soldiers will feel. And they will all be under my
direct power.
