Reading’s critically acclaimed Does It Offend You, Yeah? are set to release the follow up to 2008’s You Have No Idea What You’re Getting Yourself Into, the much anticipated Don’t Say We Didn’t Warn You on March 15 on The End Records/Cooking Vinyl. Subsequently, the band will be touring the states supporting Linkin Park starting January 20th.
Classified as everything from dance-punk to synthpop to electro house to new rave to indie rock, one listen to DIOYY’s new album and you’ll find yourself in the company of the most uncompromising, un-corporate, angry, passionate and dedicated-to-the-cause band around right now. Says frontman James Rushent, “I think it’s about time we have a f***ing mess. We want to perform music that, if we heard it, we’d go ‘oh, who’s that?’ rather than ‘here’s another f***ing ‘60s soul artist.’ [The 18 months spent recording the album] was stressful, panicky and hard work. It’s the nature of how we work. It’s like trying to put a jigsaw together where you don’t know what the picture is at the end.” Synth master Dan Coop concurs, “This is our break-out album. It has got balls-out angry stuff and serene melancholic, quite depressing stuff as well. We’d rather show all our hands like that than write a whole album that sounds the same.”
The eclectic track listing is as follows:
1. We Are The Dead
2.John Hurt
3.Pull Out My Insides
4. Yeah
5. The Monkeys Are Coming
6. Wrong Time Wrong Planet
7. Wrestler
8. Wondering
9. The Knife
10. Broken Arms
Does It Offend You, Yeah? formed in reading in 2006 around the core of James and Dan (alongside drums/bass/synth master Rob Bloomfield, guitarist Matty Derham and bassist Chloe Duveaux).Their debut album, 2008’s You Have Know Idea What You’re Getting Yourself Into was an instant success in both the UK and US. Named one of iTunes’ best alternative artists of 2008, the band has remixed marquis artists such as Muse, The White Stripes, Bloc Party and 50 Cent. They made a huge impact on the gig scene with their incendiary live performances, touring with Nine Inch Nails, The Prodigy and Linkin Park, as well damn near breaking America with a sold-out headline tour that saw James instead break his leg during a set at LA’s Troubadour. He played the last gig of the tour with a broken leg. The upcoming tour with Linkin Park promises to be no different, though hopefully minus any broken bones.
