Beasts of Burden
The bow-wows of Burden Hill, those slobbering’ investigators of the supernatural, were recently named one of the top ten comics of the year over at Publisher’s Weekly.
“Gorgeous artwork and a smart, witty script elevate this tale of household pets who unite to fight occult menaces in idyllic Burden Hill.”
It’s true, every dog has his day.

Serenity
Continuing the DH:HD program with USA Today and Toshiba, Zack Whedon and Chris Samnee delivered a new 8-page story featuring the crew of everyone’s favorite Firefly. Entitled “Downtime” the story is a fun interaction with cast of the fan-favorite show/comic/movie which also has a nice nod to Whedon and Samnee’s recently released Serenity: The Shepherd’s Tale.

Speaking of Shepherd’s Tale, Panels On Pages loved it!
“This book is superb… Zack’s work here is the best of what he’s done in comics so far, and I’d love to see him do more Firefly/Serenity work in the future. [Samnee’s] work seems to get better with every project, and this is no exception… I give Serenity: The Shepherd’s Tale 4.75 out of 5 glasses of water.”

Mass Effect
Last week, word went out that Dark Horse will be developing an interactive comic for Playstation gamers who didn’t have a chance to play the first Mass Effect. The comic will fill players in on the events of the first game in preparation for ME2’s release on PS3. This story popped up all over the internet, from Comics Alliance to Kotaku, and made every stop in-between. This series has fans, people! And we’re proud to be doing comics for them!

On that note, take a look at Star Wars: Knight Errant and Mass Effect: Evolution cover artist Joe Quinones’ blog for a look at his artistic process. Joe owns the same Ghostbusters t-shirt as I do, so you know he’s cool… plus, this is some damn interesting info on how cover art is done. Check it out!

Falling Skies
Next summer, the Steven Spielberg-produced and Mark Verheiden-helmed “Falling Skies” will premiere on TNT. That may seem like a long way off, but don’t worry, Dark Horse and TNT have you covered! Running on both sites, Paul Tobin and Juan Ferreyra are delivering a twice-monthly webcomic introduction to the show. If that isn’t enough, Comics Alliance also did an extensive interview with Verheiden.

Buffy
Always makin’ headlines, the Slayer hailing from sunny Sunnydale CA was the focus of a few great links this week. ComicBookResources.com did a lengthy commentary on issue #38 with Season 8 artist Georges Jeanty. io9.com premiered the striking new cover to the Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Tales hardcover by Jo Chen—the first Chen cover to feature Buffy, Angel and Spike! And lastly, but not leastly, CBR ran a preview of the upcoming Buffy #39. Minor spoilers ahead on that link, be wary!

Movember
Both Wizard’s new blog Pie Monkey and HyperGeek wrote nice mentions about the fund-raising, cancer-fighting efforts that some of the DH Staff are involved in this Movember. Thanks, gents!

Hellboy… on TV?
Following the small screen success of The Walking Dead, Comic Book Daily suggested Hellboy is another comic series that would make a great weekly TV show. This columnist whole-heartedly agrees!
