» Blog Archive Review: Korn's Ballroom Blitz at the Roseland Ballroom -
Deuce Hard Music, News

Nu-Metal legends Korn showed New York they can still kick it old school during their stop at the Roseland Ballroom this past Monday (May 10th). The band played as a 6 piece featuring the 3 remaining original members (John Davis, Munky, and Fieldy) along with drummer Ray Luzier and their touring guitarist and keyboardist. The show kicked off with 4U played over the PA system before the band came out and launched into “Dead Bodies Everywhere” from “Follow the Leader.” The set featured 5 cuts from the band’s debut release, 3 from “Follow The Leader,” 3 from “Issues,” 2 from “See You On The Other Side,” 1 song each from “Take a Look In the Mirror” and “Untouchables” as well as the new single “Oildale” from their forthcoming release, “III – Remember Who You Are.” The cover of Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick In The Wall” was also played there was a complete lack of material from “Life is Peachy” and the “Untitled” album.
The old school material was given new dimension with the addition of the keyboard/ synthesizer back-up and the band have not lost their edge for a live performance. Davis’s vocals still ooze emotion and Fieldy and Munky have honed their skills over time. Each had a brief solo spot as did Ray on the drums. The songs were bridged with various instrumental interludes and kept the crowd up on their adrenaline. “Oildale” shows a lot of promise for their new album with its classic Korn sound and translated fantastically live.
The crowd broke into bone-crushing pits during any material from the debut album and “Blind” was performed with the same fervor as on the album and the intro is still as powerful live as ever. “Shoots and Ladders” was the first song of the encore and Davis broke out the bagpipes to kick it off holding out notes to taunt a rabid crowd. If that wasn’t enough, the encore was rounded out with “Clown” and the hit, “Got the Life.”
I’ve seen Korn no less than 6 times since first seeing them in 1999 and this was easily one of their top 3 performances. They seriously still know how to kick ass so go out and take up some slamming room on the Ballroom Blitz.
